Veteran Services at the UO

The University of Oregon welcomes students who have served our country as members of the armed forces. Veteran students would go through the normal application process as either a first-year student or transfer applicant. The Office of Admissions, partnering with colleagues in the UO Veteran’s Education Benefits Office and the State of Oregon's Department of Veterans Affairs, assists veterans in making a seamless transition from military service to the campus community. Significant resources are in place to aid in that transition.

Resources for Student Veterans

The Student Veterans Center serves as a resource and touchpoint for student veterans. Located in the EMU, at the center you will find fellow service members, study and meeting space, computer and printing stations, staff to assist you with personal and academic needs, as well as community veteran service providers. Contact the center via email or call 541-346-3406.

The Veterans and Family Student Association was founded by UO student veterans to provide fellowship, support, peer tutoring, counseling and other services to student veterans. Contact the VFSA at 541-346-4305 or via email. The association's office is located within the Student Veterans Center.

The Lines for Life Military Helpline is available 24 hours per day at 888-457-4838, providing confidential crisis counseling and service referrals.

The University of Oregon follows Oregon Administrative Rules (OARS) in determining the residency status of student veterans.

The UO Veteran’s Education Benefits Office within the Office of the Registrar helps eligible student veterans, reservists, and dependents obtain educational benefits in compliance with the procedures and regulations of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. If you have questions about using your VA education benefits, please contact the Veterans Education Benefit team at veterans@uoregon.edu. They are in the Office of the Registrar on the second floor of Oregon Hall.

The Office of the Registrar evaluates transcripts for transfer credit. The UO generally grants credit for military educational experiences as recommended by the American Council on Education’s Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services, and in accordance with university and Oregon State University System policies regarding transfer credits. Students may wish to review general guidelines for military credit evaluation online. Additional questions may be addressed to the UO transfer articulation specialist, who can be reached via email. The Office of the Registrar is located on the second floor of Oregon Hall.

Nontraditional Student Programs in the UO Office of the Dean of Students offers information on campus and community resources and services, scholarship opportunities, and networking with other student veterans through the Peer Advisors for Veteran Education (PAVE) mentorship program.

Visit our private off-campus housing website for information about living in private off-campus housing, including resources and roommates. You can also find information about living on campus in university apartments with University Housing.

The University Counseling Center offers comprehensive mental health services to UO students, including assistance for veterans adjusting to the UO. The center can provide support and help veterans face issues such as transitioning to civilian life and campus.

The UO's United States Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) curriculum dates back to 1916, a tradition that has produced the highest number of General Officers of all nonmilitary ROTC schools nationwide.
